Tech Tip Tuesday #23

This week's Tech Tip Tuesday is a Google Calendar tip.

Google Calendar is switching to "new calendar" on February 28th. Many of you have already made the switch. If not, you will see a blue "Use new Calendar" button at the top right of your calendar. A few high school teachers had the opportunity to walk through "new calendar" using the Get started with Calendar course with me on Friday during our professional development time. If you missed out, check out the course and let me know how I can help you with your Google Calendar journey.

Now that you are utilizing Google Calendar, wouldn't it be nice to get an email every morning with all your events for the day to remind you of what's on your calendar? Guess what?! You can!

How to Set Up a Daily Agenda in Google Calendar
Please note: These directions are for "new calendar."
- In Google Calendar, look at the calendar menu on the left and find a calendar you would like shared in a daily email.
- Click on the three dots to the right of the calendar (if you hover they will magically appear) and click "Settings and sharing."
- Scroll down until you see "General notifications" and in the drop-down box next to "Daily agenda" select "Email."
- Repeat for each calendar you would like shared in a daily email, all calendar come in one single email.

Need more? I made a video tutorial that shows you what these emails look like and walks you through the process.

Tech Tip Tuesday #22

This week's Tech Tip Tuesday is a Schoology tip.

Do you have an upcoming test? Do you directions for today's class you want students to read? Are you wondering what questions students had on the homework assignment? All of these can be done with "Updates" on Schoology.

How to Post an Update
- In a course, click on "Updates" in the menu on the left
- Type and format your update in the rich-text editor box
- To make it a poll, click the poll icon (the one with the three vertical lines)
- To add the update to multiple courses, click the clipboard icon
- To make the update an announcement (sticks to the top of your course page), click the speech bubble and then the bell icon

Need more? You can find more information about updates in Schoology's Help Center. Or you can watch this YouTube video.

Already using updates? Check out this Schoology Blog post: Did You Know... Three Update Posting Tips from Bradley Kemp with some "pro tips".

How will you use updates in your courses?

P.S. I have been working on my Tech Goals for 2018. I participated in my first Twitter chat over the weekend and organized my Tech Tip Tuesdays in Blogger over here. If you have any ideas for the blog, please let me know. I would love for it to grow into a meaningful resource for all of you.

You can personalize your Google Apps menu (aka the waffle) to meet your needs!
You can reorder apps, drag apps from the "more menu" to the launcher, or more apps from the launcher down to the "more menu." Just click on the apps and drag them around!

Here's a video tutorial I created with more information.
