Tech Tip Tuesday #36

As I write this, it definitely feels like

As you complete the End of Year Packet from Sue, add the End of the Year Technology Checklist. There are many things you can do to wrap up the year and begin thinking about next year regarding technology. The attached checklist is a guide that includes links to more information and tutorials. The first checklist item is a Technology Work Request Google Form that everyone needs to complete

What else do you do to finish up the school year?

Tech Tip Tuesday #35

Have you switched over to the "new Gmail" yet? As an "Inbox Zero" follower, I love the hover to snooze and archive feature. Whether you have Inbox Zero or Inbox 10,000, I recommend giving it a try.

How to Switch to New Gmail
- Open Gmail
- Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner
- Click "Try the new Gmail"

This a fun tour of the features I found on YouTube.

Did you know... you can comment, make suggestions, and view revisions in Google Docs?

This is great for reviewing student work as a teacher, or having students do peer reviews of each other's work.

How to...
- Comment
Highlight text and click the comment button, it looks like a speech bubble. Or highlight text and use the keyboard shortcut Crtl + Alt + M.
- Make Suggestions
Change the mode in the upper right from editing to suggesting.
Any changes made will show up in green to be accepted or rejected.
- View revisions
Go to File, then Version history, and choose See version history.
Or use the keyboard shortcut Crtl + Alt +Shift + H.

I found a good YouTube video on Google Docs Comments, Suggestions, and Revisions. Please note that the menu has changed to view the revision history.

How have you used comments, suggestions, and revision history in the classroom?

Did you know... you can preview files in Google Drive?

This is an awesome hack for viewing multiple files quickly - think MCA testing schedules, pdf pages of a textbook, etc.

How to Preview Files
Option #1 - In Google Drive, right click on a file and select "Preview." Use the arrows on the left and right to move to other files.
Option #2 - In Google Drive, click on a file and press the letter P. (I learned this keyboard shortcut from Alice Keeler.)

Today I would like to share with you one of my favorite Google resources... Google Explore! This is the magical button that looks like

and can be found in the lower right hand corner of most Google Apps. The Google Blog says "Explore uses Google smarts to help you create amazing presentations, spreadsheets and documents in a fraction of the time they used to take… so you can get on with what’s most important in your life. It’s like having a researcher, analyst and designer by your side." Try clicking on it while in a Google App and see what it does!
