Tech Tip Tuesday #22

Today's Tip:
Use Chrome Extensions to enhance your Chrome experience and make your life easier!

A Few of My Favorites:
Allows you to take screenshots and edit easily within Chrome. Many of my images for tutorials are created using this extension.

Allows you to schedule times for Gmails to send. Most of my Tech Tip Tuesday emails are scheduled using this extension.

This is the extension to blame for the blue Breathe screen that pops up while I am presenting. Once installed, you can choose how frequently to get the reminder and how long the Breathe screen stays on. This would be great for students too!

This extension is also great for students! This will check spelling and grammar when you are typing in Chrome.

If you attended Bill's personal cybersecurity session and don't know where to start, this extension and password manager can help. There are others available, but this is the one I have used for years.

Back up, what's an extension?
According to the Chrome page, "Extensions are small software programs that can modify and enhance the functionality of the Chrome browser." To install extensions: While in Chrome, go to the Chrome Web Store, find an extension, and click on the blue "Add to Chrome" button. Just like with everything on the Internet, please use caution when installing extensions. (See: Browser Extensions: How to Stay Safe)

Tech Tip Tuesday #21

Today's Tip:
Control YouTube with the keyboard like a pro!

Use the spacebar to pause/play a video.
A student saved me with this one! After fumbling with the trackpad on my Chromebook to pause a YouTube video during class to discuss, one of my students told me it's so much easier to hit the spacebar. She was right!

Since this small thing made my day a little easier, I googled "YouTube keyboard shortcuts" and discovered so many more!

Skip ahead on a video.
Use the number keys to skip through a percentage of the video. The "1" key skips to 10% through a video, the "5" key skips to 50% through a video, and so on.

Go back or forward 5 seconds.
Go back 5 seconds by hitting the left arrow.
Go forward 5 seconds by hitting the right arrow.

Restart a video.
Hit the "0" key.

Turn captions on/off.
Hit the "c" key.
