Tech Tip Tuesday #12

Inline image 1

For this week's Tech Tip Tuesday, I have a Google-y tech tip for you.

If you were in PLC last week, you may have noticed that by clicking on a link you were forced to make your copy of the Google Slides. If not, you missed out on a great PLC. ;)

Forcing users to make a copy is a great way to share resources with students and colleagues while still protecting your original copy. This is called an "url trick" and the directions to make this happen are in the graphic below.

Tech Tip Tuesday #11

For this week's Tech Tip Tuesday, I have a couple more extensions for managing tabs in Chrome.

Some staff have seen this in PLC, this is the extension I used to split my screen when submitting grades. I like this extension because there are more options and you can create custom layouts.

This is a basic split screen extension that is really easy to use. If you are just getting started with extensions, I highly recommend this one.

Use this extension to "glue" your tabs back together after using Tab Resize or Tab Scissors to split them. This is another basic extension that I love.

ICYMI: Back up, what's an extension?
According to the Chrome page, "Extensions are small software programs that can modify and enhance the functionality of the Chrome browser."
To install extensions: While in Chrome, go to the Chrome Web Store, find an extension, and click on the "+ Add to Chrome button." Just like everything on the Internet today, please use caution when installing extensions

What are your favorite extensions?
Please keep sending your suggestions my way! There are sooo many great extensions out there.

Tech Tip Tuesday #10

For this week's Tech Tip Tuesday, I am sharing a couple of my favorite extensions for managing tabs in Chrome.

Two Favorites
This extension is great for quickly saving all open tabs. You can rename the list of tabs for easy reference. For example, "Monday's Leftovers" which is all the tabs I didn't close out at the end of yesterday. You can also save the tabs you use every day to a list to open all at once. For example, "Daily" opens Gmail, Calendar, Synergy, and Schoology.

This extension is also great for all the same reasons except this extension closes all your tabs when you open OneTab, which isn't always what I would like. BUT I still like this extension because you can share your tabs as a web page. For example, if you wanted your students to use a specific list of curated tabs, you can save them to OneTab and share the list. Or if you had a great list of resources, you can save them to OneTab and share your colleagues.

Tech Tip Tuesday #9

For this week's Tech Tip Tuesday, I have a Schoology tip.

When students view grades in Schoology, they see a lot of information and it can be confusing or overwhelming. Students are able to see their grade for the year (or semester, depending on the course) and their quarter grades. They see their quarter grade sorted by categories. It might be helpful for you to view your course grades as your students view them occasionally. This might help you in choosing and organizing your materials in Schoology and having discussions with your students regarding their grades.

One Way to See the "Student View" of Grades:
- Log in to Schoology and choose a course
- Click on "Gradebook" from the menu on the left side of the screen
- Click on the bar graph after a student's name to view their grades
- Click the arrows to expand (or hide) a section
