Today's Tip:
Check out some of the updates Google made to G Suite apps over the summer!
1. New Fonts to Help Improve Reading Speed
The Google Fonts team worked with Thomas Jockin to create a series of fonts that are aimed at improving reading speed. If you are interested (and it is fascinating!), you can read more about the process and the research on Thomas Jockin's Lexend page.
To access these fonts in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides:
- From the Font menu in the toolbar, select “More fonts”.
- Then, search for Lexend and select the fonts to add them to your saved fonts. These will now appear in the “My fonts” list and in the Font menu in the toolbar.
2. Import Questions from a Previous Form into a New Google Form
Google added this feature specifically for educators to make creating quizzes and collaborating with forms more efficient. Now you can reuse questions from existing forms or forms shared with you. Or you could use this feature to create different versions of the same assessment.
How to Import Form Questions:
- First, open a form and from the action toolbar on the right, select Import Questions.
- Then, from the dialogue box, select the form with the questions you want to import.
- From the right-hand sidebar menu, you can:
- Import all questions by choosing Select All> Import Questions
- Or, you can select specific questions to import and then select Import Questions
- Then, from the dialogue box, select the form with the questions you want to import.
- From the right-hand sidebar menu, you can:
- Import all questions by choosing Select All> Import Questions
- Or, you can select specific questions to import and then select Import Questions
3. Google Drive's New Priority Page
When you access your Google Drive, you will see the Priority Page by default. It is a space for you to access your most recent files and to create "workspaces" of files that you frequently access. I am really into organized spaces, including digital spaces, so I love this new feature. If you are really into it too, you can check out more information at the G Suite Learning Center. If it's not for you, you can make the "My Drive" your default page again by clicking on the Settings cog, scrolling down to Suggestions, and unchecking the box next to Make Priority my default home page.
G Suite Updates Blog
If you are interested, Google has the G Suite Updates Blog where you can check out the latest updates or the monthly recaps of updates.
Which of these updates are you most excited about?
